Wall Mount AC Maintenance Checklist for Unattended Sites

Remote telecom tower site in a forest

Telecom shelters, pump stations, and remote equipment buildings may only see a technician a few times a year. Wall mount units are built for that kind of duty, but a short checklist on every visit prevents most failures.

Every visit

  • Filters. Replace them. A clogged filter is the most common cause of low airflow, frozen coils, and high-temperature alarms. Dusty sites may need more frequent changes.
  • Condenser coil. Look for dirt, cottonwood, grass clippings, and debris. Clean as needed. A dirty condenser coil drives up head pressure and power use.
  • Clearances. Make sure nothing new is blocking airflow, such as stored equipment, weeds, or snow drifts.
  • Alarms and controls. Check the controller for logged alarms and confirm the lead/lag rotation is working.
  • Listen. Unusual fan or compressor noise is often the first sign of a problem.

At least once a year

  • Check electrical connections for tightness and signs of heat.
  • Check contactors and capacitors.
  • Measure amp draw and compare it to the nameplate.
  • Check the condensate drain and make sure it flows freely.
  • Check cabinet gaskets and the wall seal for gaps where outside air, water, or pests could get in.

Economizer units

  • Cycle the dampers and confirm they open and close fully.
  • Check the outside-air sensor and the economizer changeover setting.
  • Make sure damper blades and linkages are clean and move freely.

Keep a log

Record the date, what was checked, filter changes, and any readings. A log makes warranty claims easier and helps spot a unit that's starting to decline.

When it's time to replace a unit, our Wall Mount HVAC Units collection has 2 to 6 ton R454B units in stock with freight included.
