Most wall mount air conditioners are bought to replace a unit that has failed. If you have the model number off the old unit's nameplate, you can usually match it to an in-stock Marvair/Eubank unit in a couple of minutes. This guide shows how to read common model numbers, which of our units lines up by size, and what to check before you order.
Step 1: Find the capacity in the old model number
Most wall mount model numbers include the nominal cooling capacity in thousands of BTU/h. Look for a two-digit number such as 24, 36, 48, 60 or 72:
- 24 = 24,000 BTU/h = 2 ton
- 30 = 30,000 BTU/h = 2.5 ton
- 36 = 36,000 BTU/h = 3 ton
- 42 = 42,000 BTU/h = 3.5 ton
- 48 = 48,000 BTU/h = 4 ton
- 60 = 60,000 BTU/h = 5 ton
- 72 = 72,000 BTU/h = 6 ton
Example (Bard W-series): in a model number like W36A2-A10, the 36 is the capacity (3 ton), the A after it means air conditioner (an H means heat pump), the letter after the dash identifies the voltage and phase, and the last digits are the electric heat in kW (10 = 10 kW).
Step 2: Match it to an in-stock unit

Replacing a 2.5 or 3.5 ton unit? We don't stock those sizes. Rather than jumping straight to the next size up, check the actual heat load first (see our sizing guide). An oversized unit short-cycles and controls humidity poorly. Call us and we'll help you pick.
Replacing a heat pump? Our stock units are air conditioners with electric heat, not heat pumps. They'll heat the space, but electric resistance heat costs more to run than a heat pump in a cold climate. Let us know if that matters for your site.
About our model numbers
Our SAH/SGH units are Eubank's EAH/EGH wall mount air conditioners. The E stands for Eubank; the S stands for Stocked, meaning units that are already built and ready to ship. It is the same unit, so all EAH/EGH literature applies (for example, SAH1036AA100N = EAH1036A, SGH1072AD090N = EGH1072A):

Step 3: Check these before you order
All stock units ship as-is and all sales are final, so confirm these against the old unit and the new unit's installation literature:
- Wall opening and mounting. Cabinet sizes, supply and return openings, and mounting hole locations are not identical between brands or model generations. Measure the existing supply and return openings and compare them to the new unit's dimensions in the Product Data Sheet and Installation & Operation Manual. Plan for a transition or new wall sleeve if they differ.
- Voltage and phase. Read the voltage and phase off the old nameplate and confirm it matches the new unit and your service.
- Breaker and wire size. Check the new unit's minimum circuit ampacity and maximum overcurrent protection against the existing breaker and wiring.
- Electric heat. If the old unit had a larger heater than the new one, confirm the new heat output is enough for your site.
- Controls. Confirm your thermostat or controller is compatible, and whether any lead/lag controller or alarm contacts need to be rewired.
- Refrigerant. Our units run on R454B. Wall mounts are self-contained, so there's no line set to reuse; the whole unit is replaced.
