Wall mount air conditioners are among the fastest HVAC installs there are. There's no ductwork, no line set, and no indoor air handler. But install day only goes fast when the site is ready. Here's what to line up before the truck shows up.
1. Confirm the model and the wall
- Match the unit to the opening. Check the supply and return openings and the cabinet dimensions on the manufacturer's spec sheet against your wall. Replacements are where surprises happen, so measure the existing openings.
- Make sure the wall can carry the weight. A wall mount unit is a heavy piece of steel hanging on one wall. Plan for proper framing or structural support and the mounting brackets called for in the installation manual.
- Check clearances. Leave the space the manual requires around the condenser section and service panels. Don't tuck the unit behind a fence, a generator, or another unit's discharge air.
2. Have power ready
- Confirm the voltage and phase on the unit's electrical data match what's available at the building.
- Size the branch circuit and overcurrent protection per the unit's nameplate and local code.
- Our units come with single-point power entry and a factory-installed disconnect, which keeps the field wiring simple.
3. Plan the controls
- Pick your thermostat or controller before install day and pull control wire ahead of time.
- For two-unit shelters, have a lead/lag controller ready so the units share runtime and back each other up.
4. Plan the lift
- Line up a forklift, telehandler, or crane sized for the unit and the reach you need.
- Know where the truck can park and how the unit will get from the truck to the wall.
5. Plan for receiving
Someone needs to be on site to inspect the unit before signing for it. Our freight receiving guide covers what to look for.
6. Keep the manual handy
Every unit ships with the manufacturer's Installation & Operation Manual. Follow it for mounting, sealing, wiring, and start-up. It also matters for warranty coverage.
